Let us explore Equanimity
This blog 'COULD' change your life for the Better!
What is Equanimity? Equanimity is calmness and composure, especially in a difficult situation.
Most of my earlier years before I was aware of all my emotions I nearly always started my day feeling anxious, this anxiousness made me rush in all of my actions, and when I rushed it made me MORE ANXIOUS, and because I was MORE ANXIOUS, I RUSHED EVEN MORE, and I used to go all through the day rushing and feeling anxious, I was completely knackered by the end of the day.
This repeated itself every day for years, I never stopped to smell the roses, (so-to-speak) or to take in the scenery that was surrounding me, or to notice the clouds drifting across the blue sky, and the birds singing in the trees, this might seem silly but I used to envy Postman Pat and Jess his black-and-white cat, who often accompanies Postman Pat on his postal rounds in the village of Greendale from the children’s cartoon series that used to air on our TV sets on BBC1 during 1981 and 1982. John Cunliffe wrote the original treatment and scripts, and was directed by animator Ivor Wood, who also worked on The Magic Roundabout, Paddington, and The Herbs.
Postman Pat was a British stop motion animated children’s television series first produced by Woodland Animations.
The series follows the adventures of Pat Clifton, a postman who works for the Royal Mail postal service in the fictional village of Greendale (inspired by the real valley of Longsleddale near Kendal).
He always seemed to be able to enjoy life chugging along the hills and valleys of Greendale in his little red van, taking life as it comes, always having time to stop and help anyone in trouble along his way. Like a cat that was stuck up a tree, he would go out is way to find the nearest window cleaner to ask to borrow his ladder to rescue the distressed cat.
Then the owner of the cat would be that relived she would make Pat a nice cup of tea and serve a slice of freshly made jam sponge cake has a thank you gesture for his kind act.
I know all this is in fantasy land of make believe, and it would not happen in reality. In reality Pat would have had the sack from his job for not delivering the mail on time, plus, he could never have been able to take a cat to work delivering postal mail, postmen have enough aggravation from dogs barking and chasing after them without a pesky cat being around to aggravate the dogs even more.
But what I am trying to get over to you is, wouldn’t it be nice if we could spend a little more time enjoying life without being constantly anxious all the time?
In my book I tell you how to go about this by practicing Acceptance and Equanimity every single day of your life, by developing CONTROL over your uncontrollable thoughts which (in turn) will slow you down because that is the only control we have against anxiousness. We can’t stop feeling anxious if it’s there, (if we could I would have done it years ago) you need to Accept its presence and because anxiousness causes you to rush, and by stop rushing and slowing down is the only control we have to stop all this momentum from escalating.
So if we slow down, eventually we start to feel less anxious right???????
WRONG we feel MORE ANXIOUS, why?
I will tell you why! Because we are like a runaway train going down a steep hill the faster we go the more speed we pick up.
So in simple terms the MORE ANXIOUS we get the faster we move, and the faster we move THE MORE ANXIOUS WE GET.
So slowing down makes us MORE ANXIOUS because we need to rush, and we feel MORE ANXIOUS when the URGE to move forward is halted because the word URGE is short for URGENCY which also makes us MORE ANXIOUS. (I know it doesn’t make any sense I have studied this phenomenon for years and I’m still baffled by it).
So what’s the answer?
How can we achieve the postman’s Pat’s lifestyle without being relieved from our position of work for pissing about rescuing distressed cats all day, instead of doing our job?
You need to practice Acceptance and Equanimity every single day of your life.
I hope these 3 BOOKS may HELP anyone who are suffering, like I did for many years with ‘THE ANXIETY STATE’ till I found the answer I was looking for in; ACCEPTANCE and EQUANIMITY.
